The term Punjab comprises of two words ‘punj’ means five and ‘ab’ means water. Thus the land of five rivers. Punjab is the only state in India with a majority of Sikh population. The state is bordered by Himachal Pradesh in the east, Haryana to the south and southeast, Rajasthan to the southwest and the Pakistan province of Punjab to the west. To the north it is bounded by the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. The capital of Punjab is Chandigarh which is a union territory and is also the capital of neighboring state of Haryana.
