NIT, Durgapur

National Institute of Technology, Durgapur popularly known as NIT Durgapur or NITD is a centrally funded engineering college located in Durgapur city of West Bengal. The college was established in the year 1960 with the objective of providing quality technical education in the country. The college also offers programme in management. The college was formerly known as regional engineering college (REC), Durgapur and it was among the first 8 regional engineering colleges in the country. The college is now one of the 30 National Institute of Technology that has been recognized as the institute of national importance by the government of India, under the NIT act, 2007.

Campus:

The college campus of NIT, Durgapur is located about 161KM north-west of Kolkata on the Howrah-Delhi railway route. The college campus is spread in an area of 187 acres of  land, the college has excellent infrastructure and provides all major facilities to the student. There are many famous colleges and research institutes situated near the NIT, Durgapur some of these include IIT Kharagpur, Indian Statistical Institute Kolkata, Marine Engineering and Research Institute (MERI) Kolkata.

The college has excellent infrastructure having well equipped labs, full furnished classrooms, research facilities, computer centre for staff and students with high speed internet connectivity, the college also provide sports facility, separate hostel facility for boys and girls etc.

Activities:

The college organizes various social, cultural and technical events from time to time for the all round development of the students. Some of them include Recstacy which is annual social and cultural festival of NIT, Durgapur. Aarohan is the Annual National Techno-Management festival organised by the National Institute of Technology, Durgapur, apart from these the college also organizes sports events.
