National Institute of Technology, Surathkal
National Institute of Technology (NIT), Surathkal was established on 6th August 1960 by the government of India. The campus is approved by the MHRD and is an autonomous institution. The institution was previously known as Karnataka Regional Engineering College (KREC). It is one of the 30 NITs of India and recognized as the Institute of National Importance.
Campus
The campus is spread over the 295 acres of land in Sriniwas Nagar on the National Highway 66 by the shore of Arabian Sea. The campus is located around 22 km away from Mangalore towards Udupi. The campus is situated very close to the Mangalore railway station, international airport and ship port. The campus is much accessible by the road, rail and air.
Facilities
The campus has its own private beach on the shore of Arabian Sea. The campus provides the accommodation to the admin staff, academic staff and non-teaching staff on its campus. The campus provides the ambience hostel facility to the students including the canteen, mess, sports court, gymnasium and cafeteria. The campus also provides the market centre, cooperative society, bank, post office, hospital, guest house, library and laboratories.
Programmes
National Institute of Technology, Surathkal has 200 faculty members, 300 non-teaching staff, 5500 students from 11 academic centres and 14 departments. The campus offers B.Tech courses, M.Tech courses, MCA and M.Sc programmes. It also runs management programme like full time two years Master of Business Administration (MBA). The campus also caters the research programmes in all engineering disciplines. The major disciplines are as the following:
