King George’s Medical University, Lucknow

King George’s Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow was founded in the year of 1906. The university was formally known as Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University. The first medical session of the university was started in October 1911. It is a state university approved by UGC and medical courses are approved by the Medical Council of India (MCI).

Campus

The University campus is located in the heart of the historic city of Lucknow that is the capital of Uttar Pradesh. The campus adjoins with the crowded ‘Chowk’ area and is situated on Shahmina Road, which is very close to the bank of River Gomti. The KGMU campus is spread over an area of 100,000 sq metres. The campus is well-linked with the railway and road facility. The university has an administrative Block and also anatomy and Physiology blocks.

Facilities

The university has a well-established convocation hall, seminar hall, examination hall, guest house, computer centre. The KGMU has a well-maintained hostel for the boys with all the necessary facilities. The university has a well-stocked central library that holds books, Thesis, bound volumes, Book Bank and CDs. The library has been automated with ‘KOHA’ (Library Management Software). The university also offers the facilities such as bank with ATM service, post office, cafeteria, 24 hour running medical shops, virtual classrooms, parking etc.

Programmes

King George’s Medical University, Lucknow offers the 4 1/2 year Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). It also provides Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS).

Research Cell

The university has a vibrant research cell that is run under the guidance and support of the university dynamic vice-chancellor Prof. Ravi Kant. The cell organizes teaching and training courses/workshops/seminars time to time for the faculty and students of the University. The research cell also performs the various work/activities for the students and faculty such as Travel Fellowship, Research Showcase, EBM Workshops, Extramural Research Projects, etc.
