Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore
Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore was established in the year of 1909 by the joint efforts of Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata, the Maharaja of Mysore and the Government of India. It is one of the premier institutions for advance & technological research and education in India. In the year 1958, it was confirmed as a deemed university. Presently, it is an autonomous university approved by the Ministry of Human Resource Development.
Campus
The campus is constructed over 400 acres of land in the scenic surroundings of Bangalore city. The Bangalore City Railway Station is just 4 km away from the campus and nearest airport (Kempegowda International Airport) is around 35 km away from the campus. It is surrounded by Raman Research Institute, Indian Space Research Organization and many other institutions.
Facilities
Besides the main library, this institution provides independent libraries for all departments. The library holds thousands of books, journals, reports, etc. The health centre of IISc, Bangalore is situated in the south-west end of the campus which provides health care facilities to the institute staff and student. This institution can accommodate more than 3000 students on its campus. It also offers guest rooms for visiting parents of students. Other facilities consist of indoor and outdoor sports facilities, well-maintained canteen, auditorium, gymnasium, shopping centres and other general amenities.
