IIT, Guwahati
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati was established in the year 1994 and the first academic education was commenced in the year 1995. The institution was established by the Government of India as a sixth IIT in India. It is officially recognized as the Institute of National Importance. The institution is affiliated as an autonomous and approved by the Ministry of HRD, New Delhi.
Campus
The IIT Guwahati is located in the Amingaon block of the Guwahati district of the Assam state. The campus is located on the northern bank of the river Brahmaputra around 20 km away from the heart of the city. The campus is spread over an area of 700 acres of land. The campus is well-connected from the nearby locations. The campus has eleven departments and many buildings.
Facilities
A 74,000 square meter academic area houses the academic buildings and administrative block including the communication centre, central library, computer centre with internet connection, classrooms, laboratories, four lecture hall, auditorium, sports complex, gym, guest house for faculty, married students and staff, eight boys hostels, 1 girls’ hostel, hospital, restaurant, community hall, commercial complex, bank with ATM, post office and ample transport facility.
Programmes
The campus has around 2500 undergraduates and 2000 postgraduates’ students guided by the 260 academic staff. The campus offers 10 B.Tech, 1 B.Des, 16 M.Tech, 1 M.Des, 1 MA and 1 M.Tech + PhD programme in various fields. Placement
The placement department of the IIT Guwahati is imparting the various job oriented skills to the students by conducting various skill development programmes including the industrial visit and industrial trainings.
