As per last year’s changes made in JEE Main Eligibility criteria, candidates must check below complete information below. The eligibility criteria for JEE Main is every year announced by NTA and certain changes are introduced.

Recently, the NTA authority reviewed the eligibility criteria for admission into IIITs, NITs, CFTIs & other institutions accepting admission based on JEE Main ranks through CSAB. As per the criteria, students must secure at least 75% marks in 12th conducted by respective boards (65% for ST/ SC) for admission in the institutions OR

Candidate must be in the top 20 percentile in Class 12 exam conducted by the respective boards.

The candidates will be required to pass in each of the subjects of Class 12th/ qualifying exam.

Below, we have mentioned complete details about JEE Main 2025 Eligibility Criteria to appear in the examination. Candidates must fulfill the given eligibility before filling out the JEE Main Application Form 2025:

Basic Eligibility:

  • Nationality: Candidates must be Indian Citizens.
  • NRIs, PIOs, OCIs & Foreign national candidates can also apply.

Requirement of “Aadhar Card”:

  • Aadhaar Card is not compulsory to apply for this exam.
  • Candidates can use Passport number, Ration Card number, Bank Account number or any other valid Government identity number.

Age Criteria:

  • Age Limit: There will be no age limit prescribed to apply for JEE Main 2025.

Qualification Criteria:

  • Qualifying Exam: Candidate must have qualified 10+2 or equivalent examination from a recognised board.
  • Subjects: Candidates have to take a minimum of 5 subjects in 12th/ equivalent examination. Candidates appearing for JEE Main must have passed 12th with Physics & Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one among Chemistry/ Biotechnology/ Biology/ Technical Vocational subjects.
  • Appearing Candidates: Candidates who are appearing in 12th or equivalent class in 2025 will be also eligible for JEE Main 2025.
  • NIOS candidates can also apply for this exam. Higher Secondary Certificate Vocational Examination students are also eligible.
  • Diploma Holders: To appear in JEE Advanced, a diploma holder will be able to apply in JEE Main 2025. But their rank & score in JEE Main will not be considered for admission in NITs & CFTIs.
  • No board marks will be taken into account for calculating JEE Main score from the year 2019 onwards.
  • For B.Arch (Paper 2): Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics subjects are mandatory in 10+2 exam.

Passing Year Eligibility Criteria:

  • Candidates who have passed 12th class or equivalent exam in 2023 or 2024 will be eligible to apply for this exam.
  • If candidates have appeared in 12th or equivalent exam in 2024 but did not clear in 2021, but passed in 2022 will not be eligible to apply.
  • Candidates who have passed 12th exams in 2022 or before and those appearing in 2026 or later in 12th will be not eligible to apply for JEE Main 2025.
  • If candidates qualify 12th exam in 2024 & appear for improvement in 2025 for one or a few subjects, then top 20 percentile cut-off for 2024 will be considered.
  • However, if a candidate writes all the subjects in 2024, then the best of the two performances are considered.
  • Candidates also note that for the percentile system, total marks obtained in all the five subjects of mark sheet are required for JEE Main and JEE Advanced.

Eligibility for Admission in NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs (Through CSAB):

  • For B.E/ B.Tech/ B.Arch/ B.Plan admissions in the institutions accepting admission based on JEE Main ranks through CSAB (based on AIR), candidates must have secured at least 75% marks in 12th conducted by respective boards (65% for ST/ SC) OR
    He/she must be in the top 20 percentile in Class 12th exam conducted by respective board.
  • Also, students must have passed in each of the subjects of 12th/ qualifying exam.
  • Students will be provided admission in NITs, IIITs & CFTIs based on announced qualifying percentile by individual institutes.
  • JEE Advanced: Students will have to qualify for JEE Mains which is an eligibility test for JEE Advanced conducted for admission into IITs.

Eligibility As Per COA:

Below are the eligibility criteria that have been discussed as decided by COA for admission to B.Arch & B.Plan at institutions other than NITs, IIITs & CFTIs:

For B.Arch:

  • Qualifying Exam: Applying candidate must have passed 12th level from a recognized board or university.
  • Qualifying Marks: Student must have passed 12th level with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as mandatory subjects.
  • Qualifying Subjects: In the 12th level, students must have passed with an aggregate of 50% marks and 50% marks in PCM subjects.

For B.Plan:

  • Qualifying Exam: Applying candidate must have passed 12th level from a recognized board or university.
  • Qualifying Marks: Students must have passed 12th level with Mathematics as a mandatory subject.
  • Qualifying Subjects: In the 12th level, a student must have passed with 50% marks in
    Mathematics and 50% marks in aggregate of qualifying exam.

Subject combination required in the qualifying exam for admission in engineering & architecture courses in NITs, IIITs, & other CFTIs are mentioned below:

List of Qualifying Examinations (QE) for JEE Main:

  • The final examination of the 10+2 system is conducted by any recognized central/ State Board, such as Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi; Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi; etc.
  • Intermediate or two-year Pre-University examination conducted by a recognized Board/
    University.
  • Final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defense Academy.
  • Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling with a minimum of five subjects.
  • Any Public School/ Board/ University examination in India or in any foreign country recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
  • Higher Secondary Certificate Vocational Examination.
  • A Diploma recognised by AICTE or a State board of technical education of at least 3 years duration of General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London/ Cambridge/ Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level.
  • High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.

    We applied with BC certificate given by state government in catagery of OBC-Ncl….

    since parents income is more than 8 laks we cannot get OBC-Ncl

    Do we need to change category Genral before entrance or is it OK if write entrance and go in general category while counseling ?

    1. Candidates must have obtained a minimum of 75% marks for unreserved category and 65% for OBC/SC/ST and PWD categories in qualifying examination.
