JEE Main Percentile 2026

Applicants who are top scorers in each section are assigned 100 percentile. The percentile score is calculated up to 7 decimal places to avoid ties between two candidates who appears in exam.

The percentile is calculated for each candidate on a scale of 100 to 0 through which candidates are able to analyse their JEE Main percentile or marks.

How to Calculate JEE Main Percentile

The result is prepared for each session in the form of raw scores and percentile scores for each subject i.e., Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

The total percentile is calculated as follows:

Total Percentile (T1P):

= 100 X No. of candidates appeared for the session with a raw score equal to or less than T1
Total no. of candidates who appeared in the session

Mathematics Percentile (M1P):

= 100 X No. of candidates appeared for a session with raw score equal to or less than M1 score
Total no. of candidates appeared in the session

Physics Percentile (P1P):

= 100 X No. of candidates appeared for session with raw score equal to or less than P1 score
Total no. of candidates appeared in the session

Chemistry Percentile (C1P):

= 100 X No. of candidates appeared for session with raw score equal to or less than C1 score
Total no. of candidates appeared in the session

Why JEE Main Result Declared in Percentile?

JEE Main is conducted by NTA (National Testing Agency) on different dates basically in two shifts per day. Besides maintaining equivalence among various papers, a situation might arise that the difficulty level of various exam shifts varies. Some candidates may find the paper easier as compared to another one.

Candidates who attempts a relatively hard set of question papers ends up getting lower marks compared to those candidates who get an easy set. To overcome this situation “Normalisation procedure based on Percentile score” is used to ensure that candidates are neither benefitted nor disadvantaged due to different sets of difficulty levels.
