Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology Thiruvananthapuram

Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IISST) is the first Institution of Asia region imparting the education specific to the space science with UG, PG and research degrees. The IISST was established on 14th September 2007 by the Travancore -Cochin Literary, Scientific and Charitable Societies. The campus is recognized as the Deemed to be University by the UGC. The former President of India Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam is the Chancellor and the Dr. K. Radhakrishnan (Chairman of ISRO) is the chairman of this Institution.

Campus

The campus is situated in the 100 acres of land at 18 km from Thiruvananthapuram city on the foothills of Sahyadri. The campus is made of thick wooden architecture. The campus is located at Valiamala on the way of famous hill resort in Ponmudi.

Facilities

The campus has a state of the art infrastructure with some unique campus and academic facilities. the campus has a R&D lab, chemical lab, space lab, engineering lab, science lab, fully computerized and digital library, computer centre with high speed internet, sports & recreation centre, hostels for both; boys and girls, doctor facility and a placement cell.

Programmes

The IISST offers the 3 B.Tech programmes, 16 M.Tech programmes in the field of space science and technology. Beside these the campus offers various research PhD programmes in the same field. The campus has more than 650 students and 75 faculty members from all departments, except the 100 admin staff. The major disciplines of space science and technology offers by the institution for UG courses are as the following:

  • Aerospace Engineering
  • Avionics

Placement

The placement cell of the IISST campus is established to assist the students to engage with various scientific & research institutions and for providing them the suitable placements in manufacturing companies. The T&P cell has been invited various reputed companies and research institutions in campus recruitment.
