JEE Main 2025 Tie Breaking Rule: NTA has made a JEE Main tie-breaking policy for the examination to ensure that the ranking given to all the candidates is fair and transparent.

There are common questions and doubts that aspirant thinks such as “What if two people get the same marks in JEE?”, “How does JEE Main tie-breaking rule work, or Will rank list be affected if multiple candidates score equally?

In such cases, the JEE breaking rule will be applicable which is based on specific criteria set by the NTA. These criteria include comparing candidates’ scores in individual subjects like Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry, followed by their total number of correct answers.

JEE Main 2025 Tie-breaking Policy

Below we have given the complete details regarding the JEE Main paper wise tie-breaking rules and method of resolving ties:

JEE Main Paper 1: B.E./ B. Tech Tie Breaking

Candidates who will be obtaining same total NTA score will be fixed as per the order given below:

1. NTA score in Mathematics, followed by;

2. NTA score in Physics, followed by;

3. NTA score in Chemistry, followed by;

4. Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in all the subjects in the Test, followed by;

5. Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Mathematics in the Test, followed by;

6. Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Physics in the Test, followed by;

7. Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Chemistry in the Test followed by;

8. If there is a tie even after this, candidates will be assigned the same rank

JEE Main Paper 2A (B. Arch) Tie Breaking

Mathematics (Part-I) and Aptitude Test (Part-II) in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode and Drawing Test (Part-III) in Pen and Paper Based (offline) mode, to be attempted on a drawing sheet of A4 size.

According to the order given below the tie will be resolved between candidates obtaining the same Total NTA scores :

1. NTA score in Mathematics, followed by;

2. NTA score in Aptitude Test, followed by;

3. NTA score in Drawing Test, followed by;

4. Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in all the subjects in the Test, followed by;

5. Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Mathematics (Part-I) in the Test, followed by;

6. Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Aptitude Test (Part-II) in the Test followed by;

7. If there is a tie even after this, candidates will be assigned the same rank.

JEE Main Paper 2B (B. Planning) Part-I Tie Breaking

Tie between candidates obtaining equal Total NTA scores in B. Planning will be resolved in the following manner:

1. NTA score in Mathematics, followed by;

2. NTA score in Aptitude Test, followed by;

3. NTA score in Planning Based Questions, followed by;

4. Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in all the subjects in the Test, followed by;

5. Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Mathematics (Part- I) in the Test, followed by;

6. Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Aptitude Test (Part- II) in the Test, followed by;

7. Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Planning Based Questions (Part-III) in the Test followed by;

8. If there is a tie even after this, candidates will be assigned the same rank.

Candidates should note that the NTA will be sending the JEE Main 2025 final scorecard to the registered e-mail address. Those who will clear the JEE Main exam successfully will be eligible to take part in JoSAA counselling and apply for JEE Advanced.
