Mechanical Engineering

Introduction

What is Mechanical Engineering?

“Mechanical Engineering” is not just limited to “mechanic”.

Mechanical Engineering (ME) is fully based on the term “Mechanism”. The Mechanism is about the concept on which the law of physics, material science, environment condition and mathematics are involved in the design, production, manufacturing and maintenance.

Mechanical Engineering is one of the oldest & broadest disciplines of engineering. It has been accepted in professional education during the early 19th century.

If you are interested in machinery, functions, robotics, material science, micro devices, weapons design, aircraft, watercraft, and their manufacturing, then mechanical engineering is the best choice to prove your ability & interest and find the career which you wish to.

In the 18th century in Europe, the mechanical engineering emerged during the industrial revolution. However it has a past of thousand years in history but as the result of the development in the field of physics, mechanical engineering has become as the vital engineering.

Mechanical Engineering is an engineering branch that combines engineering physics & mathematics principles with material science, to design, analyze, manufacture & maintain mechanical systems.

In the year 1847, first British Professional Society of mechanical engineering was formed as an Institution of Mechanical Engineering.

If we can describe it in few words, then will say:

An Engineering that applies the principles of Physics, Mathematics and Material Science for Design, Analysis, maintenance and manufacturing of mechanical systems is Mechanical Engineering.”

Mechanical Engineering involves with other various engineering disciplines like civil engineering, manufacturing engineering, electrical engineering, chemical engineering, aerospace engineering and metallurgical engineering.

Courses & Duration

You can choose the mechanical engineering, once you have completed your secondary or Sr. secondary examination.

The academic criterion of Mechanical engineering is divided into three courses/programmes as follows:

  1. Diploma courses leading to the polytechnic diploma of 3 years duration.
  2. UG courses leading to the B.Tech (Bachelor of Technology) degree of 4 years duration.
  3. PG courses leading to the M.Tech (Master of Technology) degree of 2 years duration.

Beside these, it is one of the broad research fields leading to the PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) degree.

After the completion of 10th standard, you are only eligible to enter the diploma courses. After completing 12th standard you are fully eligible to choose the UG (B.Tech) programme.

For entering in Mechanical Engineering, either in diploma or UG, Mathematics and Physics are the compulsory and has to be in the qualifying examination.

For entering in PG (M.Tech) programme, B.Tech in mechanical engineering is must.

So now, you have a complete package of education in Mechanical Engineering after 10th upto research programme.

So many institutions are offering the Distance Education or Online Education in Mechanical Engineering in India and Abroad.

In most countries, you will have to be certified by the professional body after completion of your degree in Mechanical engineering.

To get admission in Engineering courses, candidates have to qualify the entrance test. These exams are organized at national, state and university level. JEE Main 2024 is a national level exam organized by the CBSE board to offer admission in B.Tech courses.

One can also apply in JEE Advanced 2024 for IITs, NITs and GFITs. For admission in M.Tech courses students can appear in the GATE 2024 examination.

Also Check:

For this certification process, you will have to fulfill a range of conditions including mandatory exam at the end of the course and work experience before being certified. Then you will be designated as the Professional Engineer (USA, Canada & SA), a Chartered Engineer (Commonwealth Countries), and European Engineers (European Countries).

In Spain, Portugal and South America the degree is conducted with the formal name as “Mechanical Engineer” of six years duration.

Jobs & Career

After the completion of the course in mechanical engineering, lots of opportunities are there in various fields of manufacturing, production, services and development. This is the age of machines and where, there is machines, there is opportunity for mechanical engineers.
