K S Hegde Medical Academy, Mangalore

K.S. Hegde Medical Academy (KSHEMA), Mangalore is a constituent academy of Nitte University. The academy came into existence in the year of 1999. It is managed by the Nitte Education Trust. The Institution is approved by the Medical Council of India, New Delhi.

Campus

The Institution campus is located in Deralakatte that is a small village in Dakshina Kannada district, near the city of Mangalore. The full-fledged academy campus is spread over 0.5 acres of land. The city is well-linked with the all modes of transportation. K S Hegde Charitable Hospital is attached to the institution.

Facilities

The Institution has a separate accommodation facility for boys and girls. The institution also offers various facilities such as canteen, well-equipped laboratories, computer labs, Seminar rooms for each department, dissection hall, museums, gymnasium and sports. The Institution has a well-equipped auditorium with a seating capacity of 500 people. The lecture halls are ICT enabled with a capacity of 180 to 350 seating seats. The Central library has a rich collection of books, journals, periodicals, newspapers and magazines.

Programmes

K.S. Hegde Medical Academy (KSHEMA), Mangalore imparts 5 ½ yrs Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). The duration of the MBBS programme is 4 ½ years academic study + 1 year compulsory rotatory internship. There are 150 seats available for this course. To get admission in this programme, candidates have to pass their 12^th or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as optional subjects and English as one of the languages of study.
