Assam University, Silchar

Assam University has been established in the year 1994 through Assam Central University Act 1989. The university is recognized as a Central University and excellent centre of learning by the UGC. All technical and professional courses are approved by the AICTE and all the law courses are approved by the Bar Council of India (BCI). It is an affiliation university and it has 56 colleges which are imparting the education in various domains. The University offers AICTE approved full-time MBA programme and doctoral courses leading to the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D). Besides this, the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Assam University offers UG courses in the field of Pharmacy.

Campus

The university has two campuses. The main campus of the university is spread over in 600 acres of land. The university campus is situated at Dargakona which is around 20 km away from the Silchar. Another campus is situated at Diphu in Karbi Anglong district. The main campus is surrounded by the lake and mountains.

Facilities

The main campus has 16 schools which control the 35 departments. The university has a central library cum computer centre in a separate building with all latest technology and rich collection of books. The campus has a health centre with all facilities to care & ambulance. Beside these, the campus has sport facility, workshops, residence, guest house, canteen, laboratories and transport facility.

Programmes

The campus has around 35 departments which are offering the education in various fields like science, engineering, law, pharmacy, humanities and management. Department of Business Administration, Jawaharlal Nehru School of Management Studies(DBA, JNSMs) offers Master of Business Administration (MBA). Department of Law, Assam University runs BA. Placement

The campus has established a Career Counselling and Placement Cell which has been working for job placement since the establishment of the university. The cell provides the job placement and trainings. The main recruiters of the university are Satyam, Mahindra, Bajaj Allianz, Wipro technologies, BSE, Genpact, Pradan, ICICI Bank and Central Bank of India.
